David M. Barnes, M.D.
Specializing in general ophthalmology including cataract surgery. He graduated from Yale and attended medical school at the University of Virginia. He was chief resident in ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases as well as an internship in pediatrics. He has practiced in Washington State for the past 5 years where he was Chief of Surgery at Island Hospital.
Dr. Barnes is originally from Lynchburg, VA and resides in Ivy with his wife and 3 children.

James E. Gillespie, M.D.
Specializing in comprehensive ophthalmology, including glaucoma and cataract surgery. Dr. Gillespie, who is a native of Tazewell County, VA, graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1966 and attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1970. He completed two years of training in internal medicine at the University of Cincinnati and spent 2 years as a flight surgeon with the U.S. Air Force. Subsequently he completed a three year residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh followed by a one year fellowship in glaucoma at Washington University in St. Louis. Before coming to Waynesboro, Dr. Gillespie spent two years as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Virginia.
He resides in Waynesboro with his wife and 2 children. |

Timothy R. Harrison, M.D.
Timothy R. Harrison, M.D. is the primary ophthalmologist in the Lexington office. He is a general ophthalmologist and performs surgery at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington. Dr. Harrison graduated from the Michigan State School of Engineering with Honors and before beginning medical school. He graduated from University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York. He completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and his internship at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan.
He lives in Lexington with his wife and two sons.

Rachna D. Patel, M.D.
Specializing in vision correction surgery, Dr. Patel has performed nearly one thousand LASIK procedures, providing patients with improved vision and freedom from depending on glasses or contact lenses.
She graduated from Yale College with honors and received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She was chief resident of ophthalmology at the University of Virginia from 1997-1998. Dr. Patel completed a corneal and refractive surgery fellowship at Tulane University, where she trained with Marguerite B. McDonald, a pioneer in refractive surgery.
She resides in Crozet with her husband. |

Peter B. Richardson, M.D.
Specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, including cataract surgery and macular degeneration. Dr. Richardson has performed over five thousand cataract and intraocular lens procedures during his twenty-one years as an Ophthalmologist in Staunton.
Dr. Richardson graduated from Dartmouth College and received his medical degree and ophthalmology training at the Medical University of South Carolina and the Storm Institute.
He resides in Staunton with his wife and three daughters. |

He graduated from Princeton University and received his medical degree from the University of Louisville. Dr. Shields received his ophthalmology training at the University of Virginia and completed his fellowship in ocular plastics from the University of Illinois Chicago. He resides in the Shenandoah Valley with his wife and three children.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and specializes in contact lenses and pediatric eye care. Dr. Smith graduated from Manchester College in Indiana and Ohio State University, College of Optometry. Dr. Smith and his wife have three grown daughters and four grandchildren. |
